nkyinkyim band to headline 36th odwira festival in new jersey

INDIGENOUS Ghanaian Band, Nkyinkyim Band, has been billed to perform at the 36th annual Odwira Festival scheduled for Friday, September 1, to Monday, September 4, 2023 in New Jersey, USA

Odwira is celebrated in Ghana by the chiefs and people of Fanteakwa District and Akuapem in the Eastern Region. Similarly, indigenes and residents of the United States of America and Canada would showcase their rich Akuapem culture in the Diaspora.

The celebration, which is under the jurisdiction of Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, and Okuapeman Association of USA and Canada (OKUSACA), is to promote Ghanaian and African culture abroad. It is against this backdrop that the Nkyinkyim Band, made up of young musicians from different backgrounds, has been invited to spice up the occasion. The group, which has been in existence since 2015, takes inspiration from “Nkyinkyim” — an adinkra symbol which represents versatility, initiative and dynamism. Its debut album, “Where We Dey?” was released on August 7, 2022.
