History

Nkyinkyim band is a makeup of young musicians from different music backgrounds united through the twist and turns of life’s journey as the name of the band suggests.

“Nkyinkyim” is an adinkra symbol which represents versatility, initiative and Dynamism. It also relates to the proverb which says “Life is a twisted journey” and the band draws its inspiration from this symbol.

The Nkyinkyim band is a Ghanaian band based in the country’s capital, Accra. This group has been in existence since 2015.

Following in the footsteps of legendary African bands like Osibisa, African Brothers International Band, amongst others, Nkyinkyim is ready to make their mark on the World’s Music Stage with a style rooted in Highlife, Afro Beats, Hiplife, Reggae, Funk and Palmwine music.

The band’s compositions are a perfect blend of the old school and the new school.

The band also renders scintillating covers to meet the taste of all music lovers.

Nkyinkyim Band organized its maiden concert in February 2020 which was dubbed “Show Your Love”; an event to celebrate love. Other concerts have been hosted by the band in consequent years. The band has worked with Artistes and music groups over the years. These artistes include Mark Edwards (Australia), Sarkordie, Akosua Agyapong, K. K. Kabobo, Ben Brako, Adane Best, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Stonebwoy, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena, Kofi Nti, Afriyie Wutah, Fameye, Keche, Mr. Drew, Krymi and Article Wan. The band has also made appearances on prominent TV shows including GTV’s Breakfast Show, Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily, TV3’s Showbiz 360 & Ghana’s Most Beautiful and UTV’s United Showbiz. Nkyinkyim has performed at the MOGO (Music of Ghanaian Origin) Concert in 2019, Family Concert hosted by Fameye in 2021, amongst others.

Nkyinkyim band is led by Kofi Johnson who doubles as a bass player. He is supported by Kwame Akumiah (Keyboardist), George Kaiser (Drummer), Seth Kpodo (Vocals) and Kwame Owusu (Vocals). With behind the scenes support from Anthony Amezuke (Tech) & Eugene Quaye (Media).

The band released it’s debut album scheduled to be released on the 27th August, 2022 and also held The first ever Nkyinkyim Experience Concert on the 24th September, 2022 in Accra.

The band was privileged to represent Ghana at the 2022 Fifa World Cup, Qatar at the Dreesha Festival.
