ACCRA, GHANA – Nkyinkyim Band, one of Ghana’s faster rising contemporary bands is back with another incredible project dubbed the “Interchange Series”. The “Interchange Series” is a twelve (12) episode live performance musical experience that involves the rendition of some of Ghana’s highlife classics as well as self composed music from the Nkyinkyim Band. The renditions seek to pay tribute to the legendary original composers of these classics such as Amakye Dede, Paapa Yankson, Kojo Antwi etc. All episodes were shot at the Pokuase Interchange in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
From now till December 2023, episodes of the series will be premiered on the Youtube channel of Nkyinkyim Band, where viewers will be treated to great renditions of music they love. Nkyinkyim band, a Ghanaian band based in the country’s capital, Accra is made up of young musicians from different music backgrounds united through the twist and turns of life’s journey as the name of the band suggests. “Nkyinkyim” is an adinkra symbol which represents versatility, initiative and Dynamism. It also relates to the proverb which says “Life is a twisted journey” and the band draws its inspiration from this symbol. This group has been in existence since 2015.
Nkyinkyim released it’s debut album “Where we dey?” on the 27th August, 2022. Following the footsteps of legendary African bands like Osibisa, African Brothers International Band, amongst others, Nkyinkyim is making their mark on the World’s Music Stage with a style rooted in Highlife, Afro Beats, Hiplife, Reggae, Funk and Palmwine music. The band’s compositions are a perfect blend of the old school and the new school with the aim of appealing to the masses.
