Ghana’s celebrated Nkyinkyim Band marked a decade of musical brilliance with a grand celebration on August 27, 2024, at Jamestown Coffee Company in Accra. Renowned as one of Africa’s top music bands, Nkyinkyim blends Highlife, Afro Beats, Hiplife, Reggae, Funk, and Palmwine into a unique fusion, following in the footsteps of legendary bands like Osibisa and African Brothers International Band.
The event was a testament to the band’s dedication and influence in the live music scene, featuring a mix of performances and reflections on their journey. Among the distinguished guests were Bessa Simons, Samuel Owusu, Naa Agyeman, Mr. Samuel Attah-Mensah, Mr. Appiah Yawson, and Dr. Eric Sunu.
The celebration highlighted the band’s history, struggles, and achievements, including their 2022 debut album, “Where We Dey,” and their representation of Ghana at the Dreesha Festival during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Attendees were treated to a blend of storytelling and music, with special acknowledgments to past members and supporters.
Band members shared their reflections: Kwame Owusu, lead vocalist, said, “The past decade has been a memorable journey, and we hope to create more memories in the year to come.” Johnson, the band leader, added, “I am grateful for this wonderful family God blessed me with.”
Attendees expressed their admiration, with Dr. Eric Sunu noting, “I am happy you guys trusted the process, and we are seeing the results today,” and Bessa Simons commenting, “Your story reminds me of Osibisa. The sky is your limit.”
The celebration continues with the Nkyinkyim X’Perience on November 15 at the Underbridge Event Centre, East Legon, and the release of their second album on November 16. The band plans to tour globally and nurture new talent in the coming years.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr. Appiah Yawson, all dignitaries, friends, and attendees for their support in making the anniversary a success. Stay updated with Nkyinkyim Band’s future events through their social media channels.
