Nkyinkyim Band is a makeup of young musicians from different music backgrounds united through the twist and turns of life’s journey as the name of the band suggests.
“Nkyinkyim” is an adinkra symbol which represents versatility, initiative and Dynamism. It also relates to the proverb which says “Life is a twisted journey” and the band draws its inspiration from this symbol.
Based in Accra, Ghana, since its establishment, the Nkyinkyim Band follows the footsteps of legendary African bands like Osibisa and African Brothers International Band. They aim to leave their mark on the global music stage with a fusion style rooted in Highlife, Afro Beats, Hiplife, Reggae, Funk, and Palmwine music, blending old-school vibes with modern elements.
Their repertoire includes captivating original compositions and dynamic covers to cater to a wide range of music lovers’ tastes.
Led by Kofi Johnson on bass, the band comprises Kwame Akumiah (Keyboardist), George Kaiser (Drummer), Seth Kpodo (Vocals), Kwame Owusu (Vocals) and Anthony Amezuke (sound technician).
In 2022, the Nkyinkyim band unveiled their debut album entitled “Where We Dey”.
The Nkyinkyim Band has collaborated with a plethora of top musicians from around the globe, including Mark Edwards (Australia), Sarkodie, Akosua Agyapong, K. K. Kabobo, Ben Brako, Pat Thomas, Adane Best, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Stonebwoy, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena, Kofi Nti, Afriyie Wutah, Naa Agyemang, Akosua Agyepong, Epixode, Joshua Nyankson, Oneil Nyantakyi, and many others, showcasing their versatility and reach within the music industry.
The band had the honor of representing Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the Dreesha Festival.
